Four banks were among the UK’s top ten corporate community contributors last year.
Statistics from the Directory of Social Change show that Lloyds TSB and Barclays were the biggest contributors, giving $62.8million (£40.4m) and $37.5m respectively during 2001/2. Northern Rock came in at number five with $23.2m and HSBC at number seven with $18.3m.
Two supermarket chains, Tesco ($18.65m) and J Sainsbury ($17.2m) were also in the top ten. The other four firms were British American Tobacco ($24.9m), BT ($23.5m), Unilever ($15.2m) and BP ($15m).
