A quarter of all fish in Unilever’s food products will be from a source certified as sustainable by the end of this year, the group has said.
Only five per cent of the fish in its supply chain was sourced in this way last year, under a scheme run by WWF. The group claims it will meet its year-end target ‘if the current number of certifications are completed as planned’.
It has pledged that by 2005 it will buy all its fish from sources judged to be sustainable under WWF’s Marine Stewardship Council initiative.
