Big player ready to join SRI game

Barclays Global Investors is investigating a move into socially responsible investment.

BGI, based in the US and one of the world’s biggest fund managers, is understood to be looking for a link-up with an SRI specialist similar to that announced last year by State Street Global Advisors with Friends Ivory & Sime (EP3, issue 6).

A move into the market by BGI would push SRI significantly further into the mainstream. Last month another big global asset manager, HBOS, joined the field (EP3, issue 9)
