Abbey National has published its first corporate citizenship report.
The 34-page document includes sections on the social impact of the UK bank’s products and services, its efforts to improve working conditions for employees, community partnerships and its environmental management.
Only the environment section is verified – by PricewaterhouseCoopers – but Abbey says it aims to have all sections independently verified ‘in future years’.
The report, published as a booklet and on the corporate citizenship pages of the bank’s web site, shows that Abbey:
made 115 adjustments to workplace layouts and equipment last year to help disabled staff – more than twice the figure for 1999
made community contributions of £2.7million ($3.9m) last year
donated 5000 computers to schools in 2000.
Future reports will measure the bank’s social and environmental performance against indicators currently being developed.
Abbey employs over 30,000 people in the UK and abroad.
