Facebook to observe at GNI

Facebook has agreed to be an observer at the Global Network Initiative, an organisation that aims to prevent censorship of the Internet by authoritarian governments. The initiative, an international non-governmental organisation also dedicated to protecting privacy rights, will allow the social networking website to remain an observer for 12 months before it has to make a decision about full membership, by which time it will need to commit to the initiative’s objectives.
