A free-market non-profit organization has alleged that some of the Western world’s largest multinationals are ‘becoming hostage’ to environmental and human rights campaign groups. World Growth, which calls itself a ‘pro-development NGO’, says leading firms are ‘putting the world’s poor at risk with unwise CSR programmes, and endangering their capacity to service the fast growing emerging markets’.
