A ‘controversial weapons monitor’ has been launched by the oekom research firm, allowing investors to review shares or bonds held in potentially risky companies.
Banks and other financial institutions will also be able to review the lending and insurance services they offer.
So far oekom has identified around 400 companies from around the world that are suspected of manufacturing controversial weapons such land mines, biological weapons and cluster bombs, of which 200 cases have been ‘substantiated’ and included in the monitor’s database.
The data are drawn from a number of sources, including media and NGO investigations.
