IBM has awarded grants totalling $50million (£30m, €34m) to 100 municipalities in a programme to promote efficiency and make cities ‘more vibrant and livable places for their citizens’. The Smarter Cities Challenge has announced 24 winners in its first phase, all of which will receive technology and services from IBM. The company says specially selected IBM experts will provide city leaders with analysis and recommendations to support successful growth, better delivery of municipal services and improved efficiency.
