Online CSR guidance specifically for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) has been launched in Wales by the devolved government’s environment and sustainability minister.
The ABC of CSR for small and medium-sized enterprises, developed by Cardiff University and the accountancy profession body, Acca Wales, provides practical advice on corporate , as well as background information and examples on the issue.
The guide is divided into three parts: a ‘getting started’ section, which gives initial practical ideas; further, advanced ideas and initiatives for those who have already started to adopt some CSR measures; and advice for companies ready to formalize their programmes. The document also outlines the legal duties of Welsh companies.
Ben Cottam, head of Acca Wales said: ‘Wales is a nation of SMEs and those businesses are at the heart of every Welsh community. The rise of ethical consumerism is a real phenomenon which means that increasingly, individuals are making choices about businesses they use, or invest in based on the social and environmental impact of those businesses. SMEs which fail to respond to that demand risk being left behind.’
The guide is the first of its kind in the UK, and is available free of charge.
