More than 1000 supplier factories to the electronics industry have now submitted social and environmental information to E-TASC, a sectoral database created by the Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI), an alliance of more than 30 information technology companies including Cisco, Dell, Deutsche Telekom and IBM. The database, managed by the sustainable procurement consultancy Achilles, allows subscriber companies to collect ethical supply chain data without duplicating effort (EP9, issue 7, p7). Luis Neves, chair of GeSI, claimed E-TASC, started in 2007, ‘is now starting to realise its potential as the industry standard tool for responsible and transparent supply chains’.
