Energy and utility company PowerGen has begun an internal review of how it can expand its reporting to cover corporate social responsibility (CSR) issues.
The group, which supplies electricity to 2.6million UK customers and has growing business interests in Europe and Asia, has produced an environmental report for eight years, but has now asked an in-house working party to consider how it can best report on social responsibility matters.
Bill Kyte, head of PowerGen’s corporate environment unit, said managers recognised that CSR, health and safety and environment issues ‘are merging together’, and that a fresh approach might therefore be needed.
‘We believe we have one of the best environment reports around, but now we need to look at how we take that forward and that is what we’re exploring in our working party,’ he said.
‘We haven’t made any decisions at the moment and I don’t think we’ll reach conclusions for at least the next six months. But we’re hoping that next year we will have an outcome.’
