An anti-corruption programme has been established in Vietnam to co-ordinate local businesses, multinationals, business associations and international partners to combat bribery.
The Integrity and Transparency in Business Initiative for Vietnam is a joint effort of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the International Business Leaders’ Forum and Transparency International.
The VCCI wants particularly to harness the financial and technical support of business to raise public awareness, and to persuade multinationals to share experiences with Vietnamese small and medium-sized companies. But it also wants to increase general awareness of anti-bribery measures.
The project, due to last three years, will be run by the VCCI with assistance from international partners and local participants with specific corruption problems.
Vietnam is one of East Asia’s most corrupt nations, being ranked comfortably below China, Thailand and Malaysia in Transparency International’s latest corruption index.
