The power of social media has been revealed again after Nestle suspended direct contracts with a palm oil manufacturer following a Greenpeace report posted on YouTube. Greenpeace broadcast the video detailing rainforest destruction by the Indonesian company Sinar Mas to public outcry, with Nestle now saying it will cease to directly source palm oil from the firm for its KitKat bars. The company had previously tried to ban the video. Greenpeace and other environmental campaigners say Nestle needs to go much further, however, because it will still be using palm oil from Sinar Mas indirectly sourced from other suppliers, and has not done enough to help protect the Indonesian rainforest from future destruction.
