A labelling system that will help consumers to discover the social and environmental impact of electronics products is being devised by a retailers’ and manufacturers’ group. Companies including Intel, Toshiba and Wal-Mart, under the umbrella of the US-based Sustainability Consortium research organization, aim to co-ordinate the labelling with existing verification systems, such as EPEAT and Energy Star. Initial results are expected in the autumn.
