A bank in Oman has set up a CSR project focused on helping Omani women to improve their economic situation. BankMuscat says the programme, announced last month, will encourage the creation of small businesses in an effort to ‘revitalize neighbourhoods and strengthen the national economy’. Shaima al Lawati, the bank’s head of CSR, said the BankMuscat Business Incubator scheme will work with women’s groups to offer lower- and middle-class Omani women training, marketing and technical support to start businesses. BankMuscat is claiming to be the first financial institution in the sultanate to establish a fully-fledged CSR department.
