A senior Australian Treasury official is to be appointed to the governmental advisory group of the Global Reporting Initiative, the non-profit Amsterdam-based organization that promotes CSR reporting.
No appointment has yet been made, but Nick Sherry, Australia's superannuation and corporate law minister, said the move would be ‘an important step’ in showing the Australian government’s increased commitment to the importance of non-financial reporting.
‘Australian membership… will provide an opportunity for the Australian government to play a role in the development of the GRI sustainability reporting framework indicators and gain greater awareness of international moves in corporate responsibility policy,’ he said
In a separate move, Simon Longstaff, executive director of Australia’s St James Ethics Centre, has been appointed to the GRI board of directors.
