Intel has gone into partnership with the US State Department Educational and Cultural Affairs Bureau (ECA) to provide information technology skills and development training for teachers in India.
The Intel project is aimed at Indian secondary school teachers who have been on ECA exchange programmes. The company will invite the teachers to participate in its in-country Intel Teach programme activities, offer an information and communication technologies forum to a selection of them, conduct online teaching courses and provide a curriculum. Afterwards it will create a network of teachers who are also part of the Intel programme.
The object is to incorporate technology into the classroom and ‘make education the foundation for India’s economic and social development during this century’.
The State Department says it is encouraging smart business investment in proven programmes that improve young people’s lives. It believes the success of the partnerships could be the basis for greater collaboration in these countries and globally.
