McDonald’s, once a regular target for animal welfare campaigners, has received an award from the UK’s Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA). The RSPCA has given the fast food chain a Good Business Award for ‘animal welfare milestones’, such as its commitment to use free-range eggs throughout Europe and its discussions with various groups on the ‘humane’ killing of chickens. Judges said the company now appeared committed ‘to using its sheer scale to influence the livestock industry on a European and even global level’.
