The Mazda Motor Corporation has received the Human Rights Merit Award from Japan’s justice ministry and the National Federation of Consultative Assemblies of Civil Liberties Commissioners.
The award, which recognizes significant achievements in human rights protection by an individual or an organization, marks Mazda’s promotion of its human rights policy inside and outside the company.
The company is praised for encouraging employees to respect human rights through internal promotion groups, whose agenda includes educational activities, counselling services and training programmes. The company itself provides human rights training for new employees and for staff who are promoted or assume new responsibilities, and it places promotional slogans on its employee buses.
Outside the company Mazda backs its policy with human rights seminars and enlightenment projects conducted with local government bodies and organizations.
All activities are in line with the Mazda Human Rights Declaration, which is overseen by a committee chaired by the company president.
