Legislation came into effect last month making it easier to prosecute British companies for manslaughter if their negligence leads to a worker’s death. The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act makes companies liable to an unlimited fine if they are found to have caused death through ‘gross corporate health and safety failures’. Prosecutions can only be brought against companies for negligence alleged to have taken place after 6 April 2008.
