A blog section on socially responsible business in Micronesia has been added to a website run by Catalyst, a London company that takes business people to other countries to study social entrepreneurs. Participants in the tours then post their comments on the Catalyst site and invite discussion.

The visit to Micronesia, a collection of hundreds of islands in Oceania, was undertaken to improve understanding of the problems of the visually impaired, particularly students. Areas in Asia that have been previously visited include Sri Lanka and Thailand and the Balkans.

Julia Meek, Catalyst’s head of research, said: ‘We’ve had some great posts and some great feedback, with around 800 visitors a day. But we are hoping that not all our readers will remain armchair entrepreneurs and urge any potential adventurers to contact us.’

Rod Schwartz, chief executive of Catalyst, said: ‘The success of the Catalyst blogs, in terms of readership numbers and enthusiasm, is symptomatic of the increased interest in social business and the social returns of business.

Catalyst advises social businesses and conducts research on health, education, environment and ethical consumerism. It has also set up a fund investing in these sectors.
