Sainsbury's supermarkets have seen the use of free plastic bags drop in the stores by ten per cent in six months, thanks to the company's campaign to encourage customers to bring in re-usable bags. It says this has avoided the use of 85 million free disposable bags, potentially keeping 750 tonnes of waste out of landfill sites.
