Forty employees of the US airline Delta have given time and funds in association with the non-governmental organization Habitat for Humanity to build homes for eight tribal families in the Indian village of Nagewadi in Maharashtra state.

The employees, who took on the work as part of Delta’s volunteering programme, worked for eight hours a day to build the houses. In addition the airline has provided $100,000 (£48,300) to build about 100 homes in Maharashtra state.

This month volunteers are to conduct a similar project in another rural area of India. The actual location and the start date have not yet been decided because of the logistics involved.
