Divine Chocolate, the UK-based fair trade business, has formed a US sister company with headquarters in Washington DC. The US business will have roughly the same ownership model as its UK counterpart, which gives Ghanaian cocoa farmers a 38 per cent stake in the company, a ‘meaningful input’ into decisions on the production and sale of Divine products, and a share of the profits. Divine was founded in 1997 as The Day Chocolate Company.
