A total of $49,000 (£25,000) has been donated by the US financial services company Bridge Capital to schools and community organizations on Saipan in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) in the western Pacific.

The donations include $18,000 for textbooks and supplies for public high schools and middle schools.

John Baldwin, one of the owners of the company, which has just established its headquarters on Saipan, said: ‘We believe in being good corporate neighbours. We’re delighted to be here in the CNMI and want to help the community service organizations to do their important work. These donations will just be the first of many to come.’
