Reduction of carbon dioxide emissions is the main theme of the newly
announced Nissan Green Programme 2010, which is intended to achieve the
Japanese car maker’s ideals of ‘symbiosis of people, vehicles and
nature’ and contributing to a sustainable mobile society.
The group wants to cut the emissions from its factories and offices as well its vehicles, and to speed up recycling. At its factories it aims to cut seven per cent off its 2005 emissions figure by 2010.
Other aims of the plan include incorporating carbon dioxide reduction as a key management performance indicator, introducing a car that runs for 100 kilometres on three litres of fuel, expanding the availability of flexible fuel vehicles in the next three years, producing an electric vehicle early in the next decade, developing its original hybrid vehicle, and accelerating the development of plug-in hybrid technology.
