Merck is to work with the World Health Organization to provide drugs at
half price for treating the tropical disease bilharzia, which is caused
by parasitic worms. Merck hopes to begin delivering the low-price drugs
on a large scale by 2008. The company has been embroiled for months in
lawsuits relating to its Vioxx painkiller drug.
