Six American multinationals have expressed interest in supporting the new European Alliance for CSR, a loose network of businesses being created at the European Commission's suggestion.
Coca-Cola, HP, IBM, Intel, Microsoft and Johnson & Johnson are in a group of about 50 mainly European companies to have officially shown interest so far.
The list of businesses, which includes Air France-KLM, BASF, BP, British American Tobacco, Danone, Lloyds TSB, Nestle, Sony, Suez, Telecom Italia and Volkswagen, has been posted on the website of CSR Europe, the business network that will do much of the administration.
More than half of the interested companies are members of CSR Europe.
The creation of a European Alliance was the main measure announced in the Commission's second CSR white paper published this year (EP7, issue 11, p1). More than 20 non-corporate organizations wish to take part, including the Hellenic Network for CSR, Green Business Network Norway, and Portugal's Responsible Business Forum.
