A ground-breaking scheme has been started in China to unite businesses and the government in tackling health problems.
The China Health Alliance has been formed by the Global Health Initiative of the World Economic Forum to trigger a joint effort to deal with the growing economic and social threat of tuberculosis and HIV and Aids in the country.
The alliance, backed by the Chinese health ministry, will concentrate on setting up workplace programmes offering employees information, testing and treatment. A particular target of the programmes will be migrant workers, who make up a large risk group. Recent figures show that people from rural areas account for 80 per cent of China's tuberculosis cases.
