The Malaysian government will introduce a code of ethics and a performance appraisal system for contractors next year to prevent abuse when they undertake work on infrastructure projects. The government will be able to suspend, revoke or blacklist a non-complying contractor's registration and prevent it from taking part in government tenders.

Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, the government's works minister, said: 'These steps taken by the ministry are to ensure that the projects entrusted to the contractors are implemented on schedule and according to specifications.'
