Hewlett-Packard is to expand a programme to support the teaching of science at universities that serve poorer students across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The multinational will back 12 universities this year, up from six in 2005, giving a $70,000 (£38,000) package to each for IT equipment. For the first time the Technology for Teaching Grant programme will cover Africa, with assistance for higher education institutions in Egypt, Ethiopia and Morocco.
