The pharmaceuticals sector has donated vaccines, equipment, health education and manpower worth at least $4.38billion (£2.5bn) during the past five years, reports the London School of Economics. The LSE’s health and social care unit, which said its estimates were ‘conservative’, found the donations had potentially helped up to 539 million people, or more than two-thirds of the population of sub-Saharan Africa. The LSE was commissioned to do the research by the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations.
