The Heart of the City group, formed in 2000 by the Bank of England, the
City of London Corporation and the Financial Services Authority, has
started a new community involvement programme for executives who are
new to CSR or want to ‘refresh their skills’.
The programme, for businesses in the City of London and Docklands, will explain the basics of corporate community involvement and how best to get the message over to staff, clients and suppliers, and will offer advice on appropriate support materials. Executives are also given the opportunity to visit other community partners and learn the ropes from a practising community affairs manager working in another company.
Most participants want to set up charitable giving programmes, encourage staff to raise funds for causes, offer volunteers, help schoolchildren with reading problems, and give marketing and business advice to start-ups, voluntary groups and schools.
Heart of the City expects 40 firms to take part in the Newcomers programme, which costs nothing to join.
