A Business Taskforce on Sustainable Consumption and Production has been set up by the UK government.
The business-led group is to provide policy guidance to ministers and will ‘foster debate on the most effective ways that business can move in the direction of more sustainable consumption and production’.
Chaired by Neil Carson, chief executive of the UK speciality chemical company Johnson Matthey, the group will initially run for two years, with administrative support from the University of Cambridge Programme for Industry. Details of the work programme will be announced shortly.
Other members include Tristan Hillgarth, group business development director at Jupiter International, Peter Jones, development director at Biffa Waste Services, and Trudy Norris-Grey, UK and Ireland managing director of Sun Microsystems.
The taskforce has been created as part of the government’s sustainable development strategy and will add to the work of a similar group on sustainable procurement set up last year (EP7, issue 3, p1).
