Wal-Mart has said it aims to source all its fish caught in the wild for the North American market from sustainable sources by February 2009. The retailer has reached an agreement with the Marine Stewardship Council to buy only from fisheries certified to the MSC’s standard for sustainable and well-managed fisheries. Many of Wal-Mart’s fish products will eventually bear the MSC label as a result. Conservation International and WWF will also work with Wal-Mart and its suppliers to make improvements in less well-managed fisheries.
