A guide has been drawn up by the United Nations Development Programme
and the National Aids Secretariat of Papua New Guinea to help companies
to develop a workplace policy on HIV and Aids.
The guide will be used at all levels of the workplace to tackle the problem. Dr Raphael Kaule, the UN programme’s support projects manager, said: ‘HIV and Aids are creeping into our workforce and we have to do something to address the problem by being responsible in the workplaces as employers and employees.’
He told an HIV and Aids workshop that employers should not stigmatize, marginalize or discriminate against people with the condition but should give advice and guidance to workers on handling the problem.
