North American business schools provide the best MBA coverage of corporate responsibility, according to the latest Beyond Grey Pinstripes survey.

The survey, carried out every two years by the US-based Aspen Institute and World Resources Institute (WRI), produced specific rankings for the first time this year, based on factors such as the proportion of class time dedicated to considering social and environmental issues and the extent of research into CSR carried out by academics.

Twenty-two of the top 30 schools in the survey's rankings were from the US or Canada, and eight of the top ten. Only Barcelona's Esade business school, which came second, and Mexico's Monterrey Technical Institute, which came third, broke the dominance at the top. Number one spot went to California's Stanford University.

The highest UK institution was the University of Nottingham, which came 12th in the survey - the only British school in the top 30. WRI said the strong North American performance was partly due to the greater extent of MBA offerings but also because strong student demand in the US and Canada had resulted in more CSR-related modules.
