Hewlett-Packard has taken first place in this year’s North American Sustainability Reporting Awards, which attracted a record 68 entries.
The multinational information technology company won the award for its 78-page 2004 Global citizen report, written by UK-based consultancy Context. The report was praised for presenting three-year goals and targets and including detailed information on social performance in the supply chain.
The clothing retailer Gap was commended for its 40-page Social responsibility report, which focused on the results of its efforts to improve garment factory conditions.
The awards, now in their third year, were announced by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies.
The Ohio scientific instruments company YSI was commended for its reporting in the smaller company category, while Canada’s Vancity Credit Union was praised for having its report evaluated by 27 community leaders before publication.
