Eight out of ten construction industry executives claim to carry out ‘high-level and detailed’ reviews of the social and environmental risks their companies face. However, of the 226 executives who responded to a KPMG survey, only a quarter said they routinely discussed these topics with their clients, and a similar proportion said they had never been raised in talks about a contract or tender proposal. This contrasts with a figure of 55 per cent of respondents who felt a CSR strategy could improve relationships with customers. A website was recently set up by the construction industry trade association CIRIA to make companies more aware of their social responsibilities.
