Chiquita meets SA8000 target

Bureau Veritas Quality International has certified Chiquita’s banana farms in Colombia, Costa Rica and Panama to the SA8000 ethical workplace standard.

Chiquita’s operations, employing more than 12,000 people, are the first to earn SA8000 certification in each of the countries. They account for about two-thirds of the company’s owned banana farms. The company adopted SA8000 as the labour standard in its code of conduct in 2000 and is working toward compliance in all its owned banana divisions.
