Switzerland’s largest bank has decided to end its involvement in the proposed building of the Ilisu dam in the Kurdish region of south-east Turkey. UBS said it had withdrawn from the project, which could displace up to 30,000 local people, because it was frustrated at continued delays in drawing up ‘accompanying measures to minimize the social and environmental impact of the project’.
