Iberia airlines has been honoured in Spain’s first corporate social responsibility awards.

The company won one of the three categories in the awards for ‘best community involvement programme in collaboration with employees’.

A judging panel assembled by the non-profit organization Fundacion Empresa y Sociedad praised the company for its collaboration with the Mano a Mano charity, set up in 1994 by Iberia employees to transport humanitarian aid to developing countries in empty cargo spaces aboard its planes.

Around 2000 of Iberia’s 25,000 staff take part in the project. During 2000 they delivered 365 tons of material to social projects.

Also honoured in two other categories were the courier-service company MRW, judged to have the ‘best product and service related community involvement programme’ and property company Grupo Lar for the overall quality of its community involvement.

Two-thirds of the 43 entries for the awards were from large companies.
