Ericsson puts phones at disposal of the UN

Swedish mobile phone group Ericsson has lent $5million (£3.5m) of equipment, free of charge, to the United Nations to help it with humanitarian operations in Afghanistan.

Ericsson plans to use the experience of working with the UN in the country to help it offer similar services in other war-torn areas of the world should the need arise.
