The US-based copper and gold mining company Freeport-McMoRan is to set up a trust for tribal communities near its Grasberg mine in Indonesia. It will pay $500,000 a year to the trust plus a payment of $2.5million backdated to 1999, when it first agreed to recognize traditional land rights in the area. The money will be used to fund community projects.
