The utility group Kelda has moved its environment and community affairs report exclusively onto the web to allow frequent updating throughout the year.
Anthony Harrington, manager of regulation, safety and the environment at the UK-based group, which owns Yorkshire Water, said: ‘Whereas most utilities simply scan their report onto their internet site once a year, we wanted to create web pages that can be refreshed as soon as more up-to-date information becomes available.
‘This new approach means we can be more flexible in providing information on our community and environmental impact. We can also update our report as many times as we like during the course of a year,’ he said.
Research carried out by the company last year had shown that the ‘overwhelming majority’ of readers of the printed report were either university academics, students or financial research institutes – all of whom were likely to have access to the internet, Kelda said.
Kelda made pre-tax profits of $311million (£222m) last year.
