Gas pipeline operator Transco has formed a community affairs team.
The four-strong team will be responsible for community initiatives undertaken by Transco and its parent company Lattice.
Social and community affairs manager Sandie Marshall, who leads the team, said Transco staff had long supported community projects through volunteering, and that the new team would ‘build on that enthusiasm to develop a co-ordinated approach to our community involvement.’
Among the company’s social projects is the Affordable Warmth initiative, which aims to alleviate fuel poverty, and the Safety Charity Challenge, under which Transco donates money to the learning disabilities charity Mencap each time an employee reports a safety hazard that could lead to injury. The number of ‘lost time’ accidents at Transco fell by 33 per cent in the scheme’s first year, saving 2521 working days.
The team will work closely with the Lattice Foundation, the charitable arm of its parent company.
Transco transports half of the UK’s energy needs through its pipelines and employs 14,000 people.
