Water in a bottle is sometimes marketed as a luxury item, sometimes as a safety net in a world where government taps can't be trusted, sometimes even as a health drink, and always as a convenience.

Very few folks outside of the developing world would suggest it's a daily necessity, though it remains a common daily purchase by millions of people. For better or worse, it's ubiquitous and here to stay.
